International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination : 21 March


The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed globally Every Year on 21 March.

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination aim to eliminate all the forms of racial discrimination.

International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination 2020 is focused on the midterm review of the International Decade for People of African Descent.

The Day was proclaimed based on the events of 21 March 1960 when police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against the apartheid pass laws in Sharpeville, South Africa.

Following this, the United Nations General Assembly called on the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination and proclaimed the day in 1966.
